BIOGRAPHY Roy "Gramps" Morgan is a soulful, country-inspired reggae singer, instrumentalist, producer and entrepreneur. Born into a musical family, Gramps is the son of the well-known late reggae-pop artist Denroy Morgan.
In 1994 Gramps and four of his siblings formed Morgan Heritage, now recognized as one of reggae's premier live and recording bands. Gramps Morgan plays keyboards in the band and also shares lead vocals with his brother Peetah on classics such as "She Still Loving Me". Morgan Heritage has released several successful albums, including Strictly Roots which won the Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album in 2016. Additionally, Morgan Heritage also received 2 Grammy nominations for their album Avrakedabra released in 2017 and for their feature on Shaggy and Sting's album titled 44/876. In 2009, Gramps released his debut solo album entitled 2 Sides of My Heart, Vol. 1 which yielded several hits including "Wash the Tears" and "Come Back to Bed". He was also featured on the India.Arie song "Therapy" that charted in the United States. Gramps Morgan has since flourished as a successful solo artist and has toured with the likes of India.Arie, Buju Banton, John Legend and Kymani Marley. In August 2021, Gramps Morgan released his third solo album, the Grammy-nominated album Positive Vibration, produced by Canadian Juno Award-winning singer-songwriter Johnny Reid. The album featured guest appearances by India.Arie, Shaggy, his father Denroy Morgan and son Jemere Morgan. |
