BIOGRAPHY Born David Brooks, Mavado's lyrics reflect the bitter/sweet realities of the hard streets of Jamaica. His debut signle "Real Mckoy" made him an overnight sensation in the Jamaican dancehall and established the blueprint for his future success; a sweetly melodic voice combined with a persona more like a gangsta rapper. The club hit "Weh Dem a Do" introduced his voice to the overseas market making it unto the airwaves on New York’s Hot 97 and the #27 position on the Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip Hop Chart.
Mavado's duets with Hip Hop artists have become legendary including Jay-Z's collab on "The Rock". |
